cri persan, Graphistes d'Iran

For
the first time in 23 years , posters by a number of Iranian graphic
designers were displayed in an exhibition held in Month of Graphic
design in Echirolles. The event was sponsored by the prominent French
graphic designer, Alain Le Quernec. The Month of Graphic Design in
Echirolle, is one of the two major graphic design events in France.
Echirolles, near the border of Switzerland, in south of France, is
not only architecturally unique, but is surrounded by beautiful mountains
that enjoys a pleasant mountainous climate .
The works at The Month of Graphic Design in Echirolle, were presented
in eight distinct collections, each accompanied by a catalogue, specially
deigned and published by Echirolles Visual Communication Center:
1. The collection of early 20th century posters belonging to Achille
Mauzan.
2. The Iranian posters exhibition titled “The Iranian Scraem”
(Un cri persan).
3. "Brief Encounters" (rapprochments), an exhibition of
travel-related posters .
4. " Motivation", a collection of typographic works from
west America.
5. “East coast/West coast”:” Emigre”, typography
works by graphic designers from the West,”Saymour Chwast”,
exhibition of the great American graphic designer and the founder
of Push Pin Studio, “Californian Dream” , was the title
given to the works by Californian designers.
6. Posters by Anthon Beeke, the Dutch master of graphic design.
7. “Image of Art” , poster exhibition by Bruno Monguzzi,
the well-known Swiss graphic designer
The event was widely covered by the media and the Iranian exhibition
received with an extraordinary enthusiasm . Apart from complimentary
artictes by local and national newspapers, the television station
of southern France also broadcast special programmes on graphic design
in Iran. Morteza Momayez , appeared in an exclusive interview, in
which he was introducted as the first Iranian graphic designer to
become the member of AGI in 1976 and the first chairman of the Iranian
Graphic Designers Society (IGDS) .
On another occasion, Reza Abedini took part in a conference held at
Gronoble School of Architecture and made a speech on different aspects
of graphic design in Iran. His speech which was presented by an introduction
of Alein Le Quernec and was accompanied by a slide show of graphic
design works by Iranian Artists, before and after the Islamic Revolution.
