Majid Abbasi and Saed Meshki in “All men are brothers” by
Jianping He

Jianping He has just published a new book, the first by his own
publisher "hesign International" in Berlin and Shanghai titled: All
Men are Brothers in English and Chinese in 664 pages, 18 x 25 x 5
cm, more than 1000 color illustrations with softcover in hard case,
(ISBN 3-9810544-0-7).
108 modern heroes and heroines have their works in the book
including Majid Abbasi and Saed Meshki. In the book there is also
another Iranian designer, Reza Abedini. Each designer had six pages
with an interview in English and Chinese with color illustrations.
Jianping He wrote the introduction of the book. Here is an extract:
One of the four Chinese classic novels “All men are brothers” tells
the legend of 108 robin hoods during the times of Zhao Zhen, Emperor
Renzong of the Song Dynasty (1010-1063 A.D.). These 108 heroes and
heroines were dissatisfied with the corrupt government and its dark
political controls at that time, in which the rich and the powerful
heavily explored the ordinary and the poor, and they established
their own organization on the Liangshan Mountain. Pearl S. Buck
(1892-1973), winner of the Noble Prize in literature 1983, was the
first person who translated this Chinese novel into English and
published it in the West. In New York, 1933’s edition. Pearl S. Buck
translated the title as “All men are brothers”. She got her idea
from a famous motto of Confucius, “All the people in this world are
brothers”. This title embodies spirit of knight connotatively and
denotatively. I want to pay my great respect to Pearl S. Buck, who
was considered as “the night watcher of the Chinese culture” by Wang
Furen, a scholar in the modern times of China.
