Basel Summer Workshops 2006
in Visual Communication and Interactive Media
Basel, July 9-August 4 2006
The Visual Communication Institute of Basel in Switzerland is
offering workshops on the theme of Visual Communication and
Interactive Media for students, graphic designers and educators
internationally.
The workshops enable an insight into topical themes in Visual
Communication and Interactive Media in a contemporary study program
influenced by the rich tradition of the Basel School of Design.
Workshops will be in seven categories as below:
Poster Design: Professor Werner Jeker
Interaction Design: Professor Michael Renner
Information Design: Professor Marion Fink
Time Based Media: Gregory Vines
Beyond the Screen: Elise Co
Typography Beyond the Grid: Professor Hamish Muir
Cultural and Design History: Mathias Remmele
Practical assignments with a high professional standard form the
core of the workshops’ focus.
Reflection on the work as well as contextual knowledge will be
conveyed through input sessions, thus allowing individual student
work to be judged within a contemporary, future-oriented environment
relevant to professional practice.

The program includes excursions to such design and art institutions
as the Basel Museum of Art, the Beyeler Foundation, the Schaulager
Basel and the Vitra Design Museum. Further trips will be devoted to
the major architectural works of Le Corbusier, Frank O. Gehry, Zaha
Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Herzog & DeMeuron and Renzo Piano, all of whom
are found in and around Basel.
